Apprenticeships, Traineeships and T-Levels at Madeley School

At Madeley School, we are committed to helping every student explore the full range of pathways after GCSEs. Whether you are interested in practical learning, gaining work experience, or starting a career while studying, our guidance on T-Levels, traineeships, and apprenticeships will give you the tools and knowledge to make informed choices.

This page brings together information, resources, and local opportunities so that students and parents can understand each pathway, see what’s available in North Staffordshire, and start planning the next steps towards a rewarding career.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are real jobs with real employers, allowing students to work, earn a salary, and gain valuable qualifications and experience.

With over 600 apprenticeship standards across a wide range of industries—from accountancy to zoo keeping—there is an apprenticeship for everyone.

At Madeley School, we ensure pupils understand the different apprenticeship levels, where to find them, and how to evaluate if an apprenticeship is right for them.

We work with ASK Apprenticeships, who visit Year 10 and Year 11 pupils during drop-down days and Apprenticeship Week, and with Newcastle College and other local providers for assemblies and talks across the year.

Traineeships

A Traineeship is a structured, introductory programme that helps young people develop the skills, experience, and confidence they need to move into work or an apprenticeship.

Traineeships usually combine:

  • Work preparation training – developing employability skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management.
  • English and maths support – if required to meet entry requirements for future apprenticeships.
  • A work placement – giving practical experience in a real job environment.

Traineeships are aimed at students who are motivated to work but may not yet have the experience or qualifications to start an apprenticeship or full-time job. They provide a pathway to employment, helping young people gain the skills and confidence to succeed in their chosen career.

Where to Complete Traineeships

  • KMF – Young Traineeships

Traineeships are an excellent way for students at Madeley School to explore different careers, gain practical experience, and build confidence before moving onto an apprenticeship or employment.

What are T-Levels?

T-Levels are a qualification that follow GCSEs and give students a head start towards the career they want.

They are ideal for students who want to work towards a skilled occupation, prefer practical learning, and enjoy a predominantly classroom-based course.

Below is a collection of resources and webinars to help staff, pupils, and parents understand T-Levels and engage effectively about them.

At Madeley School, we will introduce this pathway to pupils from Year 9 to Year 11, with support from external partners such as ASK Apprenticeships and Cheshire College South & West.
